Sara Gettys is an artist and designer living in Olympia, WA. Her work is inspired by the landscape and wildlife of Washington; from the sage of the Yakima Valley to the ferns and water of the Olympia peninsula. Sara works in multiple mediums including fabric, ceramics, and wood carving. Her interest in texture and natural forms are elements that weave through all of her work. To create her wood cut paintings, Sara uses spray paint and plants as “stencils” to create texture on a piece of plywood. She then cuts through the surface of the paint and the first layer of wood to create an image. Sara works as a video producer at South Puget Sound Community College and lives with her wife and multiple cats.
