Norman Brown

Norman Brown carves hardwood bowls using traditional hand tools. He starts with freshly cut trees, then studies each log to determine its best use and the potential sculpture encased within. Norman strives to expose and accentuate the beauty of the wood grain as it reflects shapes and textures found in nature. He uses local waste wood, that would be landfilled or burned, to create art that gives both visual and tactile pleasure.

Norman is devoted to the use of traditional hand tools and carving techniques. He is also an avid collector of antique woodcarving tools and enjoys sharing his art through teaching and demonstrating.
